On August 27th, 16 days out from the Local Council Elections, Jenny Dowell knocked on her 3000th door of the campaign.
The door belonged to Claire McGuiness, a South Lismore resident for many years. She is supporting Jenny in her campaign to become Lismore's next Mayor and was very happy to have her house become number 3000. The shoes are wearing thin and the knuckles are sore but Jenny is delighted with the response she is getting from her doorknocking. 'I started doorknocking on July 21 and have just knocked on my 3000th door', said Jenny. 'It was lovely meeting Claire McGuiness from South Lismore this morning. Claire is celebrating her birthday this week and I reached a milestone too'. With assistance from the Tickets's number 2 candidate Isaac Smith, the team is approaching 4000 local residents having their doors knocked on and the opportunity to meet the candidates face to face. Jenny & Isaac have knocked on doors throughout Lismore, Lismore Heights and East, North and South Lismore over the past six weeks. 'As well as telling people about the election, doorknocking is a great opportunity to hear the issues that are important to our residents', said Jenny. So keep an eye out for cars with the "Jenny Dowell for Mayor" bumper sticker, as they could be doorknocking your street, asking for your ideas. |

Jenny Dowell has written in support of the McLeans Ridges Community who have launched a website to help bring attention to the controversial rural developments in their area. ••••••• Jenny Dowell- Listening and Leading
Lismore needs a Council that listens to the community and a Mayor who leads. An overwhelming number of McLeans Ridges residents have made their opposition to the rezoning of rural land in their area loud and clear. Their reasons are valid, well-considered and well-expressed. This rezoning is not in the best interest of McLeans Ridges or of Lismore as a whole because it is inappropriate, unsustainable and not consistent with our own planning strategies. Lismore needs development but it must be appropriate development - whether it be residential, industrial or commercial. I look forward to the opportunity to become Lismore's new Mayor and of being part of a new Council that listens and provides leadership by asking 'What is in the best interest of Lismore both now and for the longer term?' and by acting to deliver just that. ••••••• You can show your support and visit the website at: http://www.savemcleansridges.com |

The Jenny Dowell team was out in force again at the Lismore Car Boot market on the 17th of August. It was a great opportunity to connect with residents as our local council candidates heard about the best and worst in our local area.
The team will be at the Car Boot again on September 7th, which is the last markets before the elections on September 13th. We encourage locals to come and speak with us on any issue. |

The whole Local Council team were on hand in the Lismore CBD for the official campaign launch last Friday. The event was well attended by local media and passers by had the opportunity to participate by putting an idea in the suggestion box. Team members were also handing out lolly ears and asking local residents to "chew our ear". While the lollies were successful in attracting people, they also seem to be helpful in getting locals to speak up. Many people spoke about issues from the Lismore Waste Facility (the tip) right through to traffic lights in the CBD. If you want to make a suggestion, use our suggest box on the right. We would love to hear from you.
