As early as 7 pm on election night it seemded clear that history had been made in Lismore. Jenny Dowell was on the brink of being elected lismore's first Labor Mayor and the first directly elected woman Mayor in the City's history.

By Sunday night, the results were clearer and early Monday morning Jenny received a phone call of congratulation from her nearest competitor John Chant. Jenny made her announcement claiming victory later that day but it was not until Wednesday evening that she received the official phone call informing her of her win.

'Since then, I have been overwhelmed by the emails, letters and phone calls of support and congratulations from so many people that I issued a public thank you through the local print media', Jenny said. 'To all Lismore residents, whether you voted for me or not, I assure you that I will endeavour to do my best to be a good Mayor and to uphold this position of great trust you have bestowed on me'.

'I would also like to congratulate Isaac Smith from my team who is certain to join me in Council. I am also quite hopeful that Ray Houston will be there too', said Jenny.

The wait goes on to see the final make-up of the new Lismore Council. All the ballot papers have been sent to Sydney for computer entry so the final picture may not be clear September 22 or 23.
